Effectiveness and safety of dexmedetomidine in patients undergoing general anaesthesia: A randomized, single-blind trial

Background: During the administration of general anaesthesia, laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation must be performed. Just before intubation, succinyl choline is given. Intraocular pressure, heart rate, blood pressure may all rise as a result this. Many medications have been tried utilised to mitigate this stress reaction. Dexmedetomidine sedative, anxiolytic, analgesic since it an alpha2 adrenergic agonist.Methods: For study, researchers randomised, single-blind, placebo-controlled design. Treatment was provided by Anaesthesiology Division at Meenakshi Medical College Hospital & Research Institute, Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, India between July 2020 June 2021. A no patients used 60 utilised, with 30 participants in each two groups.Results: Adjustments IOP, HR, MAP, sedation were evaluated groups single-blind randomised trial. In group that received optimal dosage dexmedetomidine, intraocular (IOP) significantly lowered, expected increase IOP due avoided. Additionally, pressor response greatly diminished.Conclusion: With current trial design, premedication intravenous reduces occurs after succinylcholine intubation. Where lead increases are harmful patients.
